姊妹關係

I  created a new series of double portraits to emphasize the bonding between each couple.  I like to leave something in this life, ex. daughters DNA, daughters paintings, and now daughters videos on clouds.   I have another medium to leave something in this world.

A good friend's Mom

Oil on Canvas

Size 50 x 55 (cm)

This is a portrait of a lady, whose daughter was a good friend from my childhood (elementary school). The Mom has suffered from various illness since we were in different junior high, when we lost contact. She helped me in many ways in school, and I thought I lost her for good, but thank to the reunion and facebook. I owed her this favor. I am lucky to be able to show my appreciation after so many years. Thank heaven!

We did have a good long chat but that's just after her Mom passing away on 06/02/2011. We looked all possible photos of her Mom's for this portrait, but all we like to remeber is when she was perfectly healthy and pretty, when is about her graduation from elementary school. All we can have is a 2-inch black & white ID photo.

This time, some challanges for me on this project are to finish it in a week, to blow it up to greater-than-life-size color, and to draw someone I have never been familiar with. The ultimate test for me is to deliver it to the Dad. Only he knew this lovely lady all his life long. I am relieved after seeing Dad's smile and compliments on the eyes.

Wish everyone is or will be relieved too.

My Father

Oil on Canvas

Size of 50 x 55 (cm)

My father was born in HuiBei, China on lunar calendar May 3 of 1922; and he passed away at home on May 3 of 2011. My little daughter kept asking me how he looked like of passing away. I could only say peacefully sleeping without any sound. He was a good man, a loyal veteran, an honest citizen, and a nobody. He knew the time was coming, insisting a hair cut, and few tears on the last weekend, but he left no sorrow words at all, only told grand-daughters be safe when walking on streets. What else do I remember? The summer he taught me to play Chinese Chess when I was in elementary school. We played every day till I was good at. He liked to took us watching house construction near-by. He was a quiet person, and enjoyed reading all sorts of books, novels, papers. I was planing to drawing him and Mom together in a double portrait, but I failed to take the photo. My little brother dug out this photo, and I decided to finished it as soon as possible. I did finish it for the funeral in time. The least thing I can do.

Nuan @ 10

Oil on Canvas

Size of 6P

To be balanced, I also completed a black & white oil painting for the older daughter, Nuan. She is growing faster than we expect, and wish she doesn't miss too much. She has a good personality like my wife's, fortunately, and enjoys reading all sorts of books. Happy holidays.

My little daughter at the age of 6.

Jee @ 6
Oil on Canvas
Size of 6P
Yes, this is a black & white painting. She sat there during my oil painting class, and held the position for me briefly, and kept asking "Can I see it?"
So, after the scratch and some layers of paints, I had taken a photo for reference, since she was going to have summer vacation in my parents', and her hair was cut short.

My wife's another classmate.

Molly
Oil on Canvas
Size of 50X75 (cm)
Again, Molly was my wife's classmate in mater degree, and worked with the kindergarten for several years until she has her own baby to take care. She has happy personality, and has family trip to aboard every year.

My wife's classmate and Nuan's teacher.

Kara
Oil on Canvas
Size of 50X75 (cm)
Kara was my wife's classmate in master degree age, and also my daughter's kindergarten daughter. She has been fond of planting green and little animals all the time. She held the lilies planted by herself in a metal vase. I chose a photo without her staring at the camera, and I think it represented her well.

My host family in Oak Park, Illinois.

Oil on Canvas
Size of 20F
It was my first birthday of 25 in Chicago in 1991 winter. They were young Christine, Kattie, and Patrick when they were about 10, 5, and 8. I still remember vividly the first morning when I was waken up by little Kattie, a lovely smiling face with big blue eyes and blond hairs stock in my eyes. They made a cake for me with 25 or 26 candles on it. If I remember correctly, the picture on the cake was a car which I was getting used to driving at that time. Their mom, Gwen, visited my family last year, and I am painting her now. I painted this one several years ago, but kept forgetting to put in the blog. I painted it with dots, a different approach to me.
